Gary Lineker singles out ‘brilliant’ Chelsea FC star after 2-0 win over Man City

Gary Lineker took to social media to praise Cesar
Apzilicueta for his performance as Chelsea FC became the
first team to beat Manchester City in the Premier League on
Saturday.
The Blues claimed a 2-0 victory over the Premier League
champions thanks to goals from N’Golo Kante and David
Luiz at Stamford Bridge as they lifted themselves back into
third place in the Premier League table.
Kante gave the home side the lead in the 45th minute at
Stamford Bridge when he fired home Eden Hazard’s cut-
back.
And David Luiz made it 2-0 to the home side in the 78th
minute when he headed home from a corner.
Azpiliceuta has been one of Chelsea FC’s most consistent
performers over the last few years.
And England legend Lineker paid tribute to the Spaniard for
his solid display against City on Saturday.
Lineker wrote on Twitter: “Cesar Azpilicueta has been his
customary brilliant self. Marvellously consistent footballer.”
The 29-year-old defender has made two assists in 16 Premier
League games for Chelsea FC so far this season.
Earlier in the game, Lineker reacted to Kante’s opener by
writing on Twitter:
“That well known poacher @nglkante gives @ChelseaFC the
most unlikely first half lead.”
The retired England striker posted a brief assessment of the
title race on social media to complete his analysis of the
pulsating game at Stamford Bridge.
Lineker added: “Excellent 2nd half from @ChelseaFC which
really livens things up at the top of the Premier League.”
Chelsea FC are now third in the Premier League table and
eight points behind leaders Manchester City.
Saturday’s results left Liverpool FC leading the Premier
League table, with Jurgen Klopp’s men a point ahead of
Manchester City.
