[Episode 13 (Finale)]

I looked up at her with tears in my eyes.
“Is that all you’re going to say? You’re not even going to run off to the police to report me or something?” I asked.
“Hmmm! as a good citizen, that’s what I should do. But the question is, if I was in your shoes, would I have been able to handle it?
Or would I do worse than you’ve done? Reporting you and getting you locked up seems like the right thing. I mean every offender should be punished by law.

But I’m also morally bound to report you but then where’s the evidence. It’s your word against mine. I won’t be doing that because your sisters need you. Just do the right thing from now onwards,” she said to me calmly.
I was dumbfounded as I couldn’t find the right words to say to her. I pulled her into a hug and I cried on her shoulders.
“It’s late now,” I should get going she said as she pulled away.
She left my house and I could feel her in every corner of the house.

I couldn’t eat that night as I went to bed thinking of how my life was going to take new turns and what if police ends up showing up one day and all I’m hiding comes to the open.
I woke up to the sound of the door
I grumbled as I found my way to the door. I opened up and it was Kiitan
“Good morning brother mi”.
“There are some people at the sitting room. They look like they’re from the bank. I just hope daddy didn’t use this house as a collateral.
Because the last thing we need is being homeless,” she said sternly as if she wanted me to warn them to stay away from the house.

I was somewhat scared at her statement but I braced up and headed to the sitting room.
I got there and indeed they looked like they were from the bank. I didn’t know how to approach them I just moved closer so they could see that I was there.
My sisters were seated quietly but Kiitan couldn’t stop eyeing them angrily.
“Good morning sir, ” the man said as he stood up to greet me stretching his hands towards me. I was a bit confuse at his actions but I shook his hands either way.
“Sit down,” he said.
I sat in front of him and I could see the beautiful woman who accompanied them with a smile plastered on her face.
“We’re sorry we came unannounced. It’s a miracle we found you” they said.

I stood there still, looking at them as I didn’t know what to say. I just forced a smile.
“Ermmmmm can we know why you’re really here,” I said slowly.
“Because since my daddy died, we’ve not really had visitors and its feels strange now that we’re having one, “ I added.
“We’re sorry to put you in that position Mr Olakunle, we’re here from your daddy’s company,” the man said.
“My daddy’s company ke?” Kiitan snapped from where she was.
“Are you people not satisfied that you rendered him useless before he died. He paid all debt he wasn’t even owing”, she said with so much anger.
“We’re in this position because you people refused to investigate right. You people killed my father and now you’re here to kill us too,” she added angrily.
“Calm down sweetheart, it’s nothing like that. In fact, we’re deeply sorry for all you have to go through the woman”, said calmly.
“We’re embarrassed that we didn’t take the right steps when all these happened and that’s why we’re here to make things right. Your father wasn’t the culprit at all, rather, he was a victim and he has been vindicated.

We’ve been able to recognize the culprit now and trust me this wouldn’t have happened if we didn’t continue investigating.
We’re sorry about your loss and we wish we could bring your father back. He was a good man and he deserved a good life. We’re here to make things right with you all. Give us a chance,” the woman said calmly.
“We brought you a cheque of 12 million for the debts your daddy paid for”, the older man said.
I was stunned and I didn’t know what to say or how to react. I looked at my sisters and they had the same expression I had
We were quiet unsure of what to say to them when the man said; “this is not all, Olakunle, whenever you’re done with school and you need a place to work, you’re free to come to us. I’m sure you father left a great legacy behind, we want you to come and carry on with it,“ He said smiling.
If only this man knows I’m nothing like my father, he won’t be asking me to work with them I thought to myself.
“Once again, we’re sorry” they said as they placed the cheque on the table, set to take their leave.
They left and I and my sisters couldn’t contain our happiness.
“Brother Kunle, our best life is about to begin. I wish Daddy was here to see this day” Shindara said almost in tears.
I felt that way too and I pulled her into a hug but the main reason why I was sad was because I chose the wrong path. What was killing me the most was the fact that I couldn’t talk about it to my family.

Months after the august visit, things had change for better for us. But everyday I sleep with fear in my mind knowing that I could be gone at anytime.
I was free and happy that things were better but I was in prison. The prison in my heart. Idera was always there for me and we’ve been waxing strong and we’d be getting married soon.
“Hey baby,” Idera Came to the room kissing me on the lips
I kissed her back passionately this time.
“Oh right! What’s the excitement baby?” She asked.
“You’re the excitement” I said back smiling.
“Ideraoluwa, You came to my life and brought love and happiness to me. I wish I could be the man for you”……
“Shhhh! Olakunle mi! You’re everything and more that I want. I love you with all my heart” she said passionately.
“Even in bad times?” I asked.
“Yes! Even in bad times honey, I’d always be here” she said to me as she sealed it up with a passionate kiss. We kissed till we moved to the next stage in bed.
She slept off in my arms. I woke up to see her lying next to me and I asked myself what more could I want in life. I realized that the greatest prison in life is the one in a man’s heart.
There’s no day I don’t think of the police busting me and my life crumbling at my feet again. I realized not all punishment are on earth. I realized God can punish you in a way no man can.
Although I was free from the law but I wasn’t free from my own conscience. I hope God forgives. In my next life, I’ll choose the right path even in the darkest moments, when my thoughts are clouded with fear and uncertainty.
I’ll trust God’s process. I thoughts to myself as I closed my eyes and laid quietly beside my woman.
